Eastern Oregon Museum, Haines, historic Photo Collection

Photographed around 1910, the I.O.O.F. Building, located on Front Street between Third and Fourth streets in Haines, was completed in 1908 by Amos Hottell who owned the brick kiln at the Haines granite quarry.  The Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodges used the upper part of the building for meetings, banquets and community dances.  The lower floor of the building was leased out.  The first tenant was D. W. Womack who used it for a general merchandise store and millinery until the 1940’s.  Note the dress dummy in the window.  After Womack closed his store, the lower section we used for various activities including banquets and as a polling place.  The current occupants operate a carpentry shop.
